MANILA, Philippines -- Strong winds toppled two billboards off the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) near the San Pedro exit in Laguna province Friday morning, but authorities said the fallen structures posed no danger to motorists.
The billboards fell on a field several meters away from the highway. Motorists reported the incident at around 10:30 a.m., said Orly Lanuza or the Philippine National Construction Corp. (PNCC).
“[Motorists] should not worry. We are more concerned with torn tarpaulins,” he said in Filipino.
If blown by the wind, advertising tarpaulins could fall on a vehicle’s windshield and obstruct the driver’s view, he said.
Advertising companies should be responsible for clearing the fallen billboards, he said.
